SOULRA RELEASES RUGGED SOLAR BLUETOOTH SPEAKER

5 hours of sunlight gives 8 hours of battery life

Soulra isn’t a company that I’ve heard of before, but their PR people got in touch to let me know about their new solar powered Bluetooth speaker – the Soulra Rugged Rukus.

Soulra Rugged Rukus 1

The Rukus connects to any mobile deivce that supports music playback over Bluetooth (that includes iOS and Android devices).   It’s powered from an internal Lithium-ion battery that can be charged from a wall outlet in 2.5 hours, or via the built in solar panel in 5 hours.

Soulra quote that playback time on a full charge is around 8 hours, so to my mind that means that the Rukus should play indefinitely when placed in direct sunlight, which is cool if you’re out in the wilderness but just can’t do without lifes little luxuries.

The design of the Rukus includes loops to the rear which allow it to be hooked on to a backpack, it’s also splashproof and “rugged”, though it hasn’t been accredited with any maximum shock ratings by Soulra.

You can also charge your mobile device while playing back music, which is one less thing to carry around I guess.

Personally, I like the green, but if it’s not your thing, the Rukus is also available in plain black.  Both are available online, including Amazon, priced around £90.
