I’ve received quite a few questions, both here on the site and on our YouTube channel, from people wanting to upgrade their Alienware M11X laptops.

Top of the agenda has been installing and using the WWAN card for mobile broadband use, so let’s deal with that before looking at some other upgrades. Read more

Review: Antec KÜHLER 920 liquid cooling kit

The CPU block and Mounting Ring

We recently took delivery of both of Antec’s KÜHLER liquid cooling kits.  The 620 review can be viewed here, we liked it for it’s ease of installations and potential for both overclocking and quiet running.

With the 620 we were able to show that you can either use it to overclock a modest processor in order to make it more usable, or you could run your processor at stock speeds and use the KÜHLER to produce an almost silent cooling solution. Read more

Optimized-cooler_master_elite_342(1)

It’s not often that I get to review products that I actually own.  But after building a new PC I have a few bits of kit to write about, the first of which is the Coolermaster Elite 342 case.  Summarized, the Elite 342 is a great case for those who want a nice, sleek look without wanting to shell out a fortune. Review: Antec KÜHLER 620 liquid cooling kit

Kuhler620

The problem with liquid cooling on a PC has always been the risk of damage.  Not only that, but traditional kits can be a bit of a pain to set up.

You have to buy a reservoir, a pump, a radiator, cooling blocks for your components, and then connect them all up with rubber hose. Read more

Computers under £50 – Apple Macs

£50

No, we’ve not lost the plot.

In previous installments, we’ve shown you how you can buy a used desktop or laptop PC for under £50.  Following on from that I received a bet from a friend that I couldn’t do the same with an Apple Mac. Read more

Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.6.7 Update

apple-logo

Apple has today pushed out a “major update” for it’s Snow Leopard operating system in the form of version 10.6.7.

The new update is more of a tidy up than a major update, it looks to be largely made up of improvements to existing features and applications, along with a few bug fixes.

Top of Apple’s list for this update are:

  • Improve the reliability of Back To My Mac
  • Resolve an issue when transferring to some SMB servers
  • Address various minor Mac App Store issues.

The rest of the bug fixes are pretty minor, unless of course your suffering from them.  Most look like issues with specific Macs and external equipment such as monitors.  There’s also additional support for new camera models in iPhoto, which is a pretty standard feature of Apple updates.

The update is available to download now, though it will require a restart in order to complete.
